I have attended a board seminar with the Norwegian Architects Union in Stockholm for the past few days. A new board was put together earlier this year. The new board was during those days in Sweden going to be introduced to the job of being a board member. The seminar will also help with the transition so that the unions work does not stop.
We received a presentation about Sweden Architects Thursday afternoon in their premises. Sweden Architects and AFAG is very similar. There are some differences that we can learn from to evolve and become even better as a union for our members.
We got to know each other better during the evenings by dining together. One of the evenings we ate dinner at Farang. No better way to initiated to conversations then getting served strange, new things like fried crab (with the legs still attached!). Recommended for food lovers - Asian food served in all sorts of colors, shapes and flavors. Very good atmosphere in the restaurant, nothing "Asian" by the interior, which for me was very fascinating.
The actual introduction of how a board works in practice took a half day. The seminar started at 09 and we kept it going until 17. It was very interesting and informative. The following day got an introduction about AFAG. What AFAG does, how they work and what they are trying to do to become even better. Everyone also did a profile test to find out what role the person has in the board.
The trip to Stockholm was instructive and very pleasant. I got a lot of new inputs during those three days as well as knowledge about what to expected and what role I've been giving. This time they put together a number of new, young members. I think that's going to be good for AFAG's further development. I'm excited about out further work together!
